| Halt Islamic banking study, group says
However, I have been told that Islamic Banking in Pakistan has a history of major scandals and flops where hundreds of thousands lost their savings. I hope that Canadian agencies are more careful in regulating these instruments. Posted 29/01/08 at 12:26 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
N.H. Is Campaign Central for Republicans
Polls show a dead-heat, and Romney's campaign is weighing whether to begin running negative ads against Huckabee. Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee senator, also is trying to compete in Iowa; he's not a factor in New Hampshire. Should Romney win Iowa's caucuses on Jan. 3, he'd come into New Hampshire in a commanding position and with a strong ground-game; Huckabee's candidacy could be over. But were Romney to lose in Iowa, GOP strategists say he would be wounded but still able to compete in next-up New Hampshire on Jan. 8 because of the foundation he's laid. If Huckabee triumphs in Iowa, these strategists say, it's unclear whether he can leverage that success into financial and organizational strength in the narrow window between Iowa and New Hampshire.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at rural development, the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) proposes to set up a training institute for farmers and unemployed youth at Zira in Punjab. To be spread over an area of 10 acres and completed in 18 months the institute would impart training to the beneficiaries in various vocational activities with a view to increasing their family income, banks executive director Allen CA Pereira, told The Tribune here today. After training, the beneficiaries would get loans at subsidised rates for starting their ventures besides getting the benefits of the government's subsidy, Atul Gautam, general manager, informed. Pereira, who was here to inaugurate bank's onsite ATM in Sector 47 here, said the bank was also in the process of promoting solar energy projects in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand to help solve the power shortage problems in these states.

We have become a family of chargers. Not the credit card variety, but the cell phone, digital camera battery, ipod kind of chargers. That's why one of my favorite Christmas presents not only helped me organize those electric items, but also made a corner of my kitchen look better. The multi-charging unit, painted white, just like my woodwork, fits neatly in a space on the counter and hides a power strip inside. I plug in the unsightly chargers and all I can see are the tiny plug-ins. At night, we line up our electronic neccessities and know right where they are every morning, charged up and ready to go. It makes me feel so twenty-first century. .
Fans Say UAlbany's Brian Lillis is AE Player of the Year..
Lillis, a 6-foot-5 senior from Urbandale, Iowa, leads the Great Danes in scoring (15.8 ppg), rebounding (6.1 pg), assists (3.5 pg), steals (1.7 pg) and blocked shots (0.7 pg). He is one of 10 players at the Division I level to lead his team in points, rebounds and assists. He is the MVP of our conference because he means so much to our team. Brian should be proud of this award." The Fans' Choice award included voting in the preliminary round and finals, with those votes added together to determine the winner. Vermont's Mike Trimboli won the inaugural award in 2006-07.
New ripening cultures add flavour to low-fat cheese
The Danish ingredients group developed the new cultures to meet rising demand from a growing category of low-fat dairy products. The culture blends - CR-530 and CR-550 - work by speeding up the breakdown of compounds during the cheese ripening process that typically cause a bitter taste in low-fat cheeses. In full-fat cheeses, the taste of these compounds are masked by the fat, explained Nanna Borne, marketing manager at the firm's Cheese Cultures division."One of the big problems with making low-fat cheese has been the bitterness," she told FoodNavigator.com. "You can taste the broken down peptides and amino acids.""The new ripening blends speed up the process so that the compounds are already broken down to something you no longer taste."The cultures are included in Chr Hansen's Flavor Control CR-500 series and targeted at producers of low-fat variants of traditional yellow cheese with high moisture content, such as Continental, Gouda and Cheddar cheese.
FindEcommerceHost.com Helps Consumers Find the Right Ecommerce Hosting
There is no doubt that the Internet has changed the way people do business. Ecommerce plays a major part in the global economy and entrepreneurs and businessmen now have a choice between traditional bricks and mortar type businesses, and conducting business on the Internet. For those who choose the Ecommerce route, finding the right Web host is just as important as finding the right location for a traditional business. A new Web site launched recently, FindEcommerceHost.com, helps people find the right Ecommerce Web host to meet their budget and requirements. There is a lot to think about when you start an Ecommerce Web site, explains FindEcommerceHost.coms Web Editor, Anne Wongsawat. You might have the product people want, but how are you going to display it on your Web site in a way that makes it easy for people to buy it? Do you use Shopping cart-type software? If so, which is best? If your site is successful, and people want to buy your products, how do they pay for them? Which payment gateway can you use? What will happen if your site becomes a small Amazon.com and receives hundreds of thousands or even millions of visitors a day? Choosing the right Ecommerce Web host can answer many of these questions.

Jarvis Minton lost kickoff-return job briefly because of that mistake in the Western Illinois game. Bielema talked at length about it afterward. Please don't make the common mistake of assuming because a player makes a mistake it is the result of the staff not addressing an issue. Favre made some bad plays in the loss to Buffalo, remember? Does that mean the staff hasn't addressed ball security with him? Q: Dennis Sullivan of Eau Claire - Iowa seemed to do the best job of any of the Badger's foes in stopping the run. Was their D line that much better or did they have a scheme that the Badgers could not solve? A: Jeff Potrykus - Michigan did the best job. Iowa had eight guys in the box with a ninth creeping up. They wanted to make Donovan beat them with his arm and he did. Q: Mike of Atlanta - Which redshirt freshmen do you think will make an impact next year? Did the UW redshirt both freshman QB recruits? A: Jeff Potrykus - Next year again? I haven't thought about it for a second...Yes, neither QB recruit has played.
Hart's hoax leaves mark on society
Ever did a quick Yahoo! search for recruiting sites? If so, it probably wasn't so quick after all because they are so many to choose from. Recruiting is no longer reserved for the periods leading up to signing day. It's become a 365-days-a-year business, where some guy sitting behind a keyboard in the middle of nowhere is so obsessed with where the next Johnny Come Lately is bound for that he will do anything - (ITALICS) anything (ITALICS END) - to beat the competition. Message boards and chat rooms eat the latest gossip up. Some of the most viewed stories on the Web last week involved (what else?) recruiting. Sports are no longer about teaching youth the core values, such a sportsmanship and teamwork. The days when they were just about having some fun after school vanished years ago.
