Silverlight update fights back against Adobe's AIR

On Monday, Adobe released the long-awaited AIR download for running Web applications offline, but Microsoft is readying an update to its Silverlight platform that it hopes will keep Web developers in its camp.

Microsoft will release the first beta of Silverlight 2 "shortly", said Scott Guthrie, a general manager in Microsoft's developer division in charge of Web development, in his blog on Friday. Next week, the company is hosting its Mix08 Web development and design conference in Las Vegas.

Silverlight 2 is a significant upgrade to the existing edition because it's designed to let programmers write rich Internet applications for Windows and Macintosh browsers using Microsoft's popular .Net tools.

The area of rich Internet applications is fast becoming one of the most hotly contested among infrastructure software providers.

The World Is "Staggering"!

Consequently, they have started to shift their headquarters and field leaders to African states, especially since most states in the Dark Continent are crippled with conflicts, turmoil, civil wars, and rebellious militias and all this makes it difficult to control the movements of terrorist groups.

Al-Qaeda employs a variety of methods to recruit new members. In Iraq, for example, it preys on the innocence of children and assassinates the souls of women! Recently, a documentary circulated in Iraq showing masked children aged 11 to 15 training on how to carry out raids and kidnap individuals in public. The footage shows a group of young boys attacking and kidnapping a young man riding a bicycle. Another scene shows those boys forcing a car to stop at gunpoint while another shows the raiding of a house and the captivation of its residents.

With the economic downturn in full swing, many companies are beginning the belt-tightening process. At such times, effectively communicating, listening, and setting a good example are more important than ever. First, know what to expect. Keeping employees focused when they fear a job loss can be a challenge. And it may get more difficult if you are expected to deliver the same amount of work with a smaller budget, fewer people, and more responsibilities. Managers in changing organizations also face a range of employee reactions – euphoria, panic, and everything in between. And as a backdrop, supervisors often face the possibility of losing their own jobs. Even if a manager understands and is on board with certain business decisions, that knowledge often doesn't make the changes that follow any easier, says Lisa Mininni, president of Excellerate Associates, a Canton-based organizational consulting and business coaching company.

McCain: Santorum, Cochran 'Not Most Respected Senators'

Off the top of my head, McCain supports the war on Islamic terrorism, Bush's judicial nominees and pro-life legislation (Hillary voted for the war before she voted against it). Hate to burst your bubble, but Bush IS a moderate-conservative, at least in my reckoning. That said, I have the utmost respect for him, epsecially considering that he managed to get elected.

At cornerback, junior Kendrick Harper could take on a bigger role. He's started a few games but battled injuries. Junior college transfer Nathan D'Cunha is expected to move in for Collins. too. Highly touted JUCO transfer Jocques Crawford is leading candidate at running back.

Practice starts: March 26.

Spring game: April 19.

Job openings: Quarterback Andre Woodson figures to be a first-day pick in the NFL draft, and his departure creates the biggest hole for the back-to-back Music City Bowl champions. Top candidates for the starting QB job include speedster Curtis Pulley, who missed last season for academic reasons, and sophomore Mike Hartline, Woodson's backup last year. Also gone is running back Rafael Little, but the Wildcats have plenty of depth there, with Tony Dixon, Derrick Locke and Alfonso Smith all returning.
