Vista SP1 still vulnerable to speech recognition ‘analog’ hole
A little more than a year ago, Sebastian Krahmer posted a question on the Dailydave security mailing list whether Vista's speech recognition was exploitable or not via malicious sound files that could be hosted on websites. I was the first to answer his call with some initial skepticism but that turned in to astonishment when I ran some tests that confirmed the vulnerability. Stories ran a few months ago before the finalization of Vista Service Pack 1 that SP1 would close this speech recognition vulnerability but I couldn't get any confirmation or denial from Microsoft after multiple queries. I finally got tired of waiting and decided to test the exploit again with Vista SP1 RTM installed and found that the vulnerability still exists. The test sound file I created managed to wake Vista speech recognition, highlight all the files on my desktop or all my pictures via Windows Explorer, and invoke the shift-delete command which wipes the files without the ability to undelete from the Recycle Bin.
BCS Championship game: Online ticket buyers risk getting sacked
Use a credit card or PayPal, which offer some protection and the potential for reimbursement. Many sellers will include pictures of the tickets with their posts on auction sites or bulletin boards. Scrutinize the tickets for any inaccuracies or alterations, and cross-check the seat assignment with the map on the venue's Web site before you buy. Source: Better Business Bureau .

Wisconsin trail systems are the best signed and organized system in the entire US, because of the WI Trails Association and many volunteer hours (by snowmobilers). You could take hidden cameras into any town in the US, and see the same activity on a night of dart, pool, bowling, or horseshoes leagues. Maybe we should ban the sale of horseshoes or bowling balls? This year is the best year for snow conditions, so there are more and more people out on the trails as well. Enough is enough with this segment, isn't there other news that can be reported? While the snowmobile season is coming to a close and my rental property is empty again due to your one sided reporting of drinking and snowmobiling that you and your station has decided was the top story. Why not also somehow put in on the news that all of the northwoods benefits from all of the tourism it brings in.

Pumpkin's dad arrested in US
His acquaintances tipped off local authorities after seeing news reports about Xue. "He was arrested in Atlanta,'' Tom Hession, head of the Los Angeles US Marshals, said. "The arrest was based on the news reports and the internet and America's Most Wanted,'' Hession said. "He was either associated with, or staying with some folks, who realised he was wanted and they called authorities.'' The website for the America's Most Wanted television program says Xue was caught after Chinese-American locals recognised him. "According to police, Xue was at an apartment complex when a number of residents noticed him and a fight broke out," the website says. Xue 'hogtied' "Local authorities got wind of the incident and arrived on the scene only to find the suspected murderer hogtied and detained by a number of men." Hession said authorities hoped to be able to deport Xue back to New Zealand soon.

Navigating to retirement
Over the last six months, some of the toughest decisions have been not to make any decisions," said Gold, who also works with the Moores and Scotts. "It's really important to stay the course." 401(k) nest egg For many workers nearing retirement, workplace 401(k) programs represent a nice pot of money. That makes them a tempting place to look for cash as credit conditions tighten. The issue of whether or not to take a 401(k) loan is one of several key decisions being thrust upon workers as they're forced to assume more control over their retirement plans. Fewer employers offer company-managed pensions, so employees must make more of their own decisions. The various 401(k)-style retirement plans can be a great way to accumulate wealth. The programs feature tax-sheltered growth and employer-provided matching funds in most cases.
Candidates reveal differences at forum
The town candidates were asked to give two-minute response to such questions as: How would you address violence in Taos? How would you make Taos a sustainable community? Did you agree with term limits? How would you improve tourism? How would you increase lodger’s tax revenue? What would you do to stop the bickering on the town council?Incumbent Councilors Erlinda Gonzales and Melitón Struck opposed term limits, but the remaining candidates all suggested councilors be limited to two four-year terms.Candidate Amy Quintana, however, pointed out that a change in state law might be required to allow term limits for councilors.Eugene Sánchez vowed that he would work with legislators to change the law.But the candidates for two open seats in the March 4 election revealed more differences in their direct response to comments from their challengers.Gonzales and Struck expressed their objection to the proposed SmartCode, which would provide a Master Plan to guide the town’s land use regulations.Struck said the proposed SmartCode would not protect the historic district in Taos and Gonzales said she opposed the recommendation in the preliminary plan allowing three-story buildings in the downtown area. The other candidates saw the SmartCode as a way to resolve conflicts in the town’s land use ordinances and Amy Quintana pointed to the failure of the town manager to fill the planning director position for more than a year as an obstruction to the town’s ability to plan for the future, especially in regard to approving the SmartCode.Julia Valerma said the SmartCode encompasses most the Vision 20/20 plan touted by Struck and Gonzales over the SmartCode, but said it would define the current and immediate needs of the community. The Vision 20/20 Plan, which was created by extensive grassroots input in 1999, was never formally adopted by the town council.
The Circuit
Marble, inlaid gold and Swarovsky crystal were the design details of choice (bling!). After all, let’s not forget this is a palace. Fancy a spot of Falconry before high tea? Or a round of Dune Driving? How about some Sand Skiing? Or would you rather just admire a corral of camels as you sip iced cocktails on the sand under a fully furnished Arabian tent? More Than Three Wishes Absolutely no expense was spared; the attitude of the festival seemed to be: "You Want It, You Got It." Be careful of what you wish for – as I learned during one luxurious twenty-person dinner on a verandah overlooking the beach. I casually mentioned my disappointment in having missed the screening of a particular film, and before the words were fully out of my mouth, Bassem Kudsi (pictured), Head of Communications for the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, whipped out his cell phone and arranged a private screening for the next morning – which was going to seriously cut into my scheduled poolside schmoozing.
