| AAAS: State of the Art in Nuclear Physics-Experiment
Rounding out my AAAS coverage, we have the rest of an overview of the cutting edge research in the field of nuclear physics. My first article from this seminar focused on the theoretical and computational side; this article will focus on recent work on the experimental side. This portion of the seminar consisted of three experimentalists discussing their work, and one researcher discussing medical applications of nuclear physics. The first talk was given by Dr. Elizabeth Beise, a professor of physics at the University of Maryland. She examined parity violation in electron scattering experiments. She started by highlighting how experiments can link various theories that work at very disparate length scales. While the new hotness in particle and experimental high energy physics is the Large Hadron Collider, which will slam protons into one another, she discussed using electrons as a simpler probe.
Could the Irish scupper the Lisbon Treaty?
While European politicians were most nervous about the prospect of a British referendum, an Irish “No" is not an impossibility. Of course, the Irish rejected the Nice treaty in 2001. The Irish government broadly blamed it on a lack of time spent campaigning and will not make the same mistake again. Although after the Nice “No" they were required to vote again, I am pretty sure that would be impossible in the current climate. So an Irish “No" would be a very serious business. It would surely kill off the treaty of Lisbon, as surely as the French and Dutch killed off the constitution. Which would leave the leaders of the EU is a very tricky position: would they really spend the next two years trying to tweak the text again so that it looked sufficiently different, to go through the whole process again? Rejection signs? Some are already suggesting the foundations for rejections are there.

Funny, the emphasis on this photo is on Hillary and Obama, but I wouldn't be surprised if the source was really some dirty tricksters of right-wing nutcases in the Republican parts trying to divide the Democrats, and if so it sounds like they've been successful. Too many dirty tricks - I am weary of it, like many of us in the public who are just looking for good leadership and resolution of the problems that we face. That is why Senator Obama's message resonates so much with us. As I've followed the campaigns, I see him behaving the most honorably and graciously of all. He is a Christian who quotes the most Christian of all principles, which is to be your brothers/sister's keeper (essentially to care for each other) and his message of hope is so important in our world today. I'm also glad he has some Muslim roots because I think that will give him an edge in majority Islamic countries where he will be listened to and respected more because of that.

Ghana happy to host CNN Awards- Minister

Giving the genesis of the Awards, Maggie Eales, Turner/CNN Senior Vice President said the concept was developed by Edward Boateng, Managing Director of Global Media Alliance, one of the organisers of the event when he felt that African journalists needed to be commended for their contributions towards the growth of the continent.
